Why Spec Sheets Feel Overwhelming

A consumer tech spec sheet is written primarily for two audiences: retailers who need standardised data fields and marketing teams who want impressive figures in front of shoppers. Neither audience is you — the person trying to understand what a device will actually do in your hands. Apply the sustained-vs-peak test to every figure

For each key number, ask: is this a sustained figure or a peak figure? Processor boost clock speeds, maximum charging watts, and peak display brightness are frequently peak values. Sustained values — the performance the device maintains under typical load over time — are more predictive of daily experience. When only a peak figure is listed, search for independent test results that measure sustained performance under real workloads.
